Tips and tricks when the tunnel stinks

You love your Flesh Tunnels, but you know this phenomenon: after some time a very unpleasant smell develops in the tunnels? The tunnel stinks.

Where this comes from and how to prevent it or get rid of the smell - we'll tell you here:

Strictly speaking, this phenomenon affects not only tunnels, but any kind of ear jewelry and even unstretched ear holes, the smell that arises from small ear holes, reminiscent of old cheese and is accordingly called ear cheese in English. If ear jewelry is not changed regularly, a mixture of dead cells of the skin, sebum, sweat, dirt, dust, remnants of beauty products such as shampoo, make up or skin cream etc. develops in the ear hole and on the jewelry. This mixture begins to stink after a certain time due to bacteria formation. The result: your tunnel stinks. The larger the skin surface of the ear hole, the more of this mixture can deposit and then stink, hence the experience: the tunnel stinks more than a normal ear hole. By stretching the ear holes, the skin surface increases significantly. So how can you prevent the tunnel from stinking?

Since the smell can become very intense and moreover, lack of care can also cause inflammation, you should clean your tunnel jewelry and the flesh tunnels themselves regularly. Since every body is different, you can't say exactly how long it will take for your tunnel to stink, some sweat more or produce more talc than others - in this case, cleaning is necessary sooner. In no case should you wait until the smell is already there, because firstly it is embarrassing and secondly it is not healthy. Also, if there are signs like oozing, swelling, itching or getting hot, you should react immediately.

So, depending on the person's body, the tunnel stinks faster and stronger - or not. Are there any other points that influence whether the tunnel stinks?

Yes, because the material of the tunnels also makes a big difference: for example, if the skin is completely sealed very tightly, this will definitely cause the tunnel to stink. Silicone tunnels stink more, for example, because they cover the skin pores so tightly. Another fact is: does the material let your skin breathe?

In fact, this is the advantage of organic jewelry, such as wood, horn or bone, because these materials let your skin breathe even when you wear them and the plug or tunnel doesn't stink. Non-organic materials such as brass and stainless steel do not allow your skin to breathe when worn, here cleaning is necessary more often. So air should come to your ear regularly, which means you have to take the plug jewelry out sometimes. During this time you can comfortably clean both the piercing jewelry and your stretched ear holes, either with water only (sensitive materials, e.g. wood), with water and soap or with 3% hydrogen peroxide or medical alcohol. The more you sweat and the less breathable the material of the plugs is, the more often you should clean your flesh tunnels. This way you can also completely prevent your tunnel from stinking.

So flesh tunnels don't have to stink, with proper cleaning and care, you can completely prevent your tunnel from stinking. The type of cleaning and frequency depends on the piercing material and your body. If only to prevent inflammation, it should be a concern to you. Once the smell is there, you've waited too long, the goal is for the tunnel to never stink.

For people who sweat a lot, we especially recommend plugs and tunnels made of wood, horn or bone. In general, for real tunnels, we recommend cleaning at least once a week. And even with normal earrings, it is important to regularly clean the skin and jewelry hoops or plugs from dirt and sebum.

Now you know why an ear tunnel stinks and that this is not only unpleasant and embarrassing, but also dangerous if it leads to inflammation. Now it is imperative to prevent the tunnel from stinking, for example by choosing breathable jewelry or by cleaning and letting air reach these otherwise sealed skin areas.
