Battery law information

The German Battery Act (BattG) regulates responsibility for the disposal of batteries and rechargeable batteries in Germany. It obliges manufacturers and importers to ensure their products are disposed of in an environmentally sound manner and to bear the costs of taking back and disposing of used batteries and rechargeable batteries.

Consumers are required to dispose of used batteries and rechargeable batteries at an official collection point or return them to the seller. Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of in normal household waste, as they contain toxic substances that can harm the environment and health.

It is important to comply with the Battery Act to ensure environmentally sound disposal of batteries and accumulators while also fulfilling legal obligations.
